The Rundown AI – On to Chapter 3

The Rundown AI – On to Chapter 3

This entry is part 6 of 9 in the series Learning AI

Chapter 3 on Design in the free course on The Rundown AI is the chapter I am looking forward to the most. Why? Because I love creating images but because I have no design experience other than photoshop, my designs were never special. The images I’ve seen that are created on AI platforms have been amazing.

The the first lesson basically covers:

  1. What is Generative AI for Design?
  2. Real-world applications
  3. Most popular AI design tools in 2024
  4. Pros & Cons of each tool
  5. Our all-around favorite

According to The Rundown AI, the following are the most popular tools for design:

Most Popular AI Design Tools in 2024

  1. Midjourney
  2. DALL-E 3
  3. Adobe Firefly
  4. Ideogram
  5. Canva AI

Before we go any further, let me just say that I get a little excited over image creation so just let me be and enjoy the ride. Mid-Journey is the favorite in The Rundown AI, so I’m going to tell you a little about that and move on.

Mid-Journey is not free but if you like creating images and you plan to create many images, you can definitely see quickly how a $10 a month account for 200 images a day is a good deal.

So, here’s how it works after you have signed up and subscribed to a plan. Just like with a regular chatbot, you are going to enter the details that you want to use to create an image.

I enter the following prompt:

and here is a screenshot of the images I received:

Then, look at the sidebar beside that set of images, you should see something like this:

There are a lot of options there but the first thing I’m going to do is click on that “+ use text” and clarify what I want the picture to look like a little more. When I click on the use text button, the prompt connected to that picture will show up in the search bar. I’m then going to add details like “in a purple raincoat with hazy skies and the sun shining through”.

and the images I received from the bot look like this:

That’s pretty cool if I do say so myself.

You can ask the bot to “rerun” the prompt for more images. That is in the box pictured above. Here’s what I received:

Now, you can use the other options to edit the photo you like. Simply click on your favorite image and all these options come up:

I could spend hours telling how this works but The Rundown AI Chapter 3 does a much better job plus, I prefer to learn by clicking and seeing what I can create. If you decide to get an account with Mid-Journey, then just play around with your prompts and all the tabs and buttons.

I decided to change up the prompt a little like this:

and look at these beauties:

Here is a great set of tips from The Rundown AI on writing prompts:

Key Prompt Strategies

  1. Use clear and descriptive language. Ensure you provide any context or details that are important to you.
  2. Be specific, follow Midjourney’s prompt structure to specify details in your prompts
    • Subject: person, animal, character, location, object
    • Medium: photo, painting, illustration, sculpture, doodle, tapestry
    • Environment: indoors, outdoors, on the moon, underwater, in the city
    • Lighting: soft, ambient, overcast, neon, studio lights
    • Color: vibrant, muted, bright, monochromatic, colorful, black and white, pastel
    • Mood: sedate, calm, raucous, energetic
    • Composition: portrait, headshot, closeup, birds-eye view
  3. Incorporate aesthetic styles, art mediums, and time periods to add more detail to your image.
  4. Experiment with different prompt structures and combinations

There are many other parameters that can be used and you will find them on The Rundown AI, it’s really that easy. I’m going to leave you there to go play on your own and to read more information about this on the free introduction guide on The Rundown AI.

Thanks for reading,
